Mindful Muslim Reader usually recommends Muslim books (books with Muslim protagonists or Islamic concepts) which promote and enrich the idea that acts of worship are truly meaningful to Muslims when they are done only for the pleasure and reward of Allah ﷻ. Books which solely tie acts of worship like fasting to cultural or community identity are usually not recommended on our site. However, this book is noteworthy because it allows Muslim children growing up in the West to see themselves as a normal, even integral, piece of the fabric of society. Curious George helping a friend celebrate Ramadan by fasting, giving charity, attending the mosque, exchanging gifts on Eid, etc. will be burned into the imagination of a young child, and give strength to their identity as a practicing Muslim. Parents and educators can always supplement this book with one that focuses on an inward understanding of fasting.
