Synopsis
Part of the Can Be Books collection. A leaf can be a shade spiller, a mouth filler, a tree topper, a rain stopper. Find out about the many roles leaves play in this poetic exploration of leaves throughout the year.- Prior to reading, discuss the following with your child: To get to know Allah ﷻ is to know Him through His creations. Plants are a beautiful creation. What do you know about plants? What can we use them for?
- Prior to reading, discuss parts of a plant and how each part of the plant has a purpose, focusing on leaves.
- Did you know that plants remember Allah ﷻ? The Quran states “Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth ˹constantly˺ glorifies Allah—the King, the Most Holy, the Almighty, the All-Wise.” (62:1)
- The Prophet ﷺ said, “No Muslim plants a plant or sows a crop, then a person, or a bird, or an animal eats from it, except that it will be charity for him.” (Tirmidhi)
- The Quran states that Allah ﷻ “knows all that is in the land and sea. No leaf falls without His knowledge…”(6:59)
- Comprehending the knowledge of Allah ﷻ: How many plants exist in the world? Can you count? Allah ﷻ has knowledge of every single plant that exists in the world because He is the creator of plants and everything else in the universe, including us.
Mindful Muslim Review
This set of beautiful picture books filled with rich illustrations and creative adjectives, can be used to teach reverence for what may seem to be the most ordinary of Allah’s ﷻ creations—in this case leaves—and an appreciation for the knowledge Allah ﷻ has given us to put those creations to good use. This book can be easily scaffolded for different age groups if read aloud—reading the simple story to younger ones and discussing the more complex concepts with older children. We recommend the parent read the information in the back first to build a richer experience while looking at each page.
Mindful Muslim Reader recommends additional books in this collection.
