VIEW FLAGS
Mindful Muslim Review

Can a mouse play on a seesaw with an elephant? Only when all the animals join in to help! But even then, nothing happens: the seesaw won’t budge. It seems almost hopeless until a tiny fly joins the group. This book is a simple yet poignant tale of coming together to overcome even the most difficult obstacles. It takes all of us–even the littlest–to accomplish something great.

Teaching Tools
  • Did Mouse need his friends to help him?
  • What happened when all the large animals came?
  • What happened when the fly finally came?
  • Do you think something as small as a fly can make a difference?
  • Does everyone matter when we’re trying to do something great?
  • Mouse and Elephant are friends in this story and are playing a game. What if Elephant represented a challenge, something so difficult that one person can’t accomplish it by themselves, and Mouse represented a single person. What lesson could you learn from this story?
  • The Prophet ﷺ had the greatest challenge of all time: to communicate Allah’s ﷻ message so it can reach us, and those after us, perfect and complete. Over a millennia later we still have the perfectly preserved Quran and the  wonderful sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ. But the Prophet ﷺ did not do this by himself ﷺ.  Allah ﷻ surrounded him ﷺ with sahaba (companions). His ﷺ companions came from all backgrounds, some were young, some were old, and some were even children like you. Some were men and some were women. Some were rich and some were poor. Some were educated and some were not. Some were strong and some were weak. All of them played an important role in keeping the truth alive.
  • Some things we can do alone, but there are many things that we can’t do alone or we can do better when we surround ourselves with helpful companions.
