Synopsis
"What we have here is a bad case of stripes. One of the worst I've ever seen!" Camilla Cream loves lima beans, but she never eats them. Why? Because the other kids in her school don't like them. And Camilla Cream is very, very worried about what other people think of her. In fact, she's so worried that she's about to break out in...a bad case of stripes!- What happened to Camilla when she refused to eat the lima beans? She gave up on what she knew was good for her.
- Why did Camilla keep changing? She became a puppet to people’s opinions.
- What happened when Camilla finally ate the lima beans? She reclaimed ownership over who she was.
- Share the story of Prophet Nuh, peace be upon him, how he kept building the ark even though people ridiculed him. We live in a time when Islam is like the ‘ark in the desert’ and being Muslim can look to others like ‘eating lima beans.’
Mindful Muslim Review
This book cleverly illustrates the trappings of people-pleasing. Camilla turns into a chameleon of sorts when she comes down with the ‘stripes’ and her outward appearance becomes dictated by the words of those around her. A lesson for all to not give up on that which is good (in this case eating lima beans) to appease the masses. A great conversation starter about holding on to truth (what is good) even at the risk of ridicule.
